Canadian Institutes of Health Research Knowledge Translation Casebook: "Rethinking How We Replace Knees and Hips"
Alberta’s Hip and Knee Replacement Project has been published as a case study of best practices in collaborating to develop and share knowledge in health care.
The project is featured in the new edition of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Knowledge Translation Casebook, which is distributed to thousands of researchers and research organizations around the world. The CIHR is the government of Canada’s agency for health research.
The Hip and Knee Replacement Project was a collaborative effort by Alberta’s physicians, public health administrators, the Ministry of Health and Wellness, and Alberta Bone and Joint Health Institute to develop and test an improved model for delivering hip and knee replacement care. It was among the most extensive health services delivery evaluations ever undertaken in North America.
ABJHI is now working with public health care administrators, surgeons, physicians and other health care providers to roll out the new model province-wide.
Just 10 examples of knowledge translation were chosen for the Casebook from across Canada. Alberta’s Hip and Knee Replacement Project appears as Case Study 2.
