Need for Demand and Resource Modeling Significant and Growing

Modeling is performed to identify needs so that informed decisions can be made about resources. Currently, there is a huge information deficit with regards to population need and demand and the corresponding resource requirements. Without this information, it is not possible to determine how best to flow patients through a continuum of care.

In just two years, Alberta Bone a Joint Health Institute (ABJHI) has successfully conducted extensive modeling. Need, demand and resources required for hip and knee replacements have been built by ABJHI for the nine regional health authorities in Alberta. The ABJHI is also currently building a flow model for hip and knee replacements.

Knowing the insights and benefits generated by these models, the demand and need for modeling is significant and growing.
