January 12, 2005 (Calgary, AB) - The Alberta Bone and Joint Health Institute deeply regrets the untimely loss of its founder, J.R. (Bud) McCaig.
Mr. McCaig's vision and energy were key elements in the creation of the Alberta Bone and Joint Health Institute in early 2004. As the organization's founder, he held the position of Honorary Chair on the organization's Board of Directors.
"On behalf of everyone involved with our Institute, I would say we are devastated," said Ian Robinson, Chair of the Institute. "Yet we are committed to Mr. McCaig's vision of improving health care for all Albertans. The Alberta Bone and Joint Health Institute will remain strong and active - focused by the energy inspired by our founder."
Known for his business successes and immense generosity to the community at large, Mr. McCaig's passionate commitment to revitalized and innovative health care for Albertans and the global community was one of many notable qualities. Mr. McCaig was a powerful champion of medical advancement, which he demonstrated in his many leadership roles throughout the 1990s including: Chairman of the Calgary Regional Health Authority; Chair of the Provincial Health Authorities of Alberta and the Council of Chairs; and Co-chair of the Project Motion campaign for the development of the McCaig Centre for Joint Injury and Arthritis.
