Canada’s Health minister has named Cy Frank, ABJHI’s Chief Medical Advisor, to a panel that will examine innovative ideas in health care and recommend how the federal government can support those with the greatest promise for bringing value to public health care in Canada.

The Advisory Panel on Health Care Innovation will consider Canadian and international ideas for improving the quality and cost-effectiveness of patient care. It will consult with provincial and territorial representatives before making recommendations.

In a news release, Rona Ambrose, the Health Minister, said the panel will focus its recommendations on potential federal actions, complementing provincial and territorial efforts to improve their health systems. The panel will also actively seek the views of Canadians and organizations with an interest in health care innovation.

The panel is chaired by David Naylor, a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. Dr. Naylor identified Dr. Frank and Francine Girard, dean of the faculty of nursing sciences at Université de Montréal, as panel members who are exemplary Canadian innovators. The panel has just under a year to make its recommendations.
