Leaders in innovation for the Alberta Bone and Joint Health Registry

ABJHI Latest News & Research, Program & Project Updates

As part of the Expression of Interest process that ran from December 2018 to January 2019, ABJHI received many high-quality submissions. The level of interest in the Alberta Bone and Joint Health Registry Governance Committee and Shoulder Expert Group reflects the need for clinicians, researchers and the Alberta public to have access to robust bone and joint health data and knowledge. The inaugural meetings were held in March 2019, to assist ABJHI as work progresses to launch the Registry.

The Governance Committee will oversee the development of key operating processes and policies for the Alberta Bone and Joint Health Registry. Membership includes patients, researchers, physiotherapists, physicians including family medicine and orthopaedic surgery, a chiropractor, a representative from the Bone and Joint Health Strategic Clinical Network, and one of the ABJHI Executive team. The Shoulder Expert Group will determine the scope of the shoulder module and select the minimum dataset. Once data collection begins, they will oversee annual reports on shoulder conditions and research conducted on shoulder conditions using data from the Alberta Bone and Joint Health Registry. The Shoulder Expert Group includes sports medicine physicians, physiotherapists, an athletic therapist, an orthopaedic surgeon, a radiologist specialising in musculoskeletal imaging, a massage therapist, and a patient representative. Many also participate in research.
